Award-winning Barbados gospel group, Promise, continues to make its presence felt on the Gospel scene throughout the Caribbean and in parts of Canada and North America. Formed in 1981, Promise is an interdenominational group of musicians and singers who have committed themselves to remain true to their calling – spreading the gospel of Jesus in song. Ever evolving, the group is considered by many to be one of the leading gospel groups in the Caribbean.
Commencing with its debut album Safari Search in 1984, the group has nine (9) recordings to date, the latest being “Sweet Noel” and “Everything I Need” released in 2001 & 2002 respectively. Some of the group’s most popular hits are: Love Letters, Crucified, Raining, Sing Hallelujah, The Commands, I Seek You.
Promise has also been recognised over the years for its innovation and consistence with numerous awards from recognised organisations like:MEGOB (Best Gospel Band - 1981 - 1986); Cultural Promotions of Barbados (Best Gospel Band - 2000); Life Time Achievement Award (received in Trinidad); Flame Gospel Music (Band of the Year, Recording of the Year & Song of the Year 2002 & 2004); Marlin Awards 2004 (Best Ska Song). In 2004, the group was nominated for induction to the International Gospel Music Awards, Hall of Fame held in Detroit, USA.
Promise continues to make great strides in the Gospel arena and its ministry has taken the group on tours throughout the entire Caribbean, the US and British Virgin Islands, USA and Canada. Over the years Promise has shared the stage with internationally renowned artistes such as, Kirk Franklin, Andre Crouch, Ron Kenoly, Harella Goodwin, Jeff White, Richard Smallwood, Larnelle Harris, Jesse Dixon, Commission, Calvin Bernard Rhone, Stitchie, Papa San, J. Errol Lewis, The Grace Thrillers, Shirley Caesar, Atta Boafo and many others.
